Richard Mays in St Andrews

For the house maintenance, communication was always good from Richard.
As another review has mentioned though, he did visit unannounced every so often, once even coming into my room without knocking which was bizarre.
There were a few other strange miscommunications in the last month of my stay, most notably being moved from one room in the house to another with a day's notice to pack up, and being asked to pay rent i had already paid. Nothing life-ruining at all, but definitely day-ruining at the time.

Richard is a fair and responsible landlord. If something needed fixing - lights, washing machines, shelves - he would get it sorted at most within a week - usually it was quicker. He is understanding of our situations as tenants and this was 100% proven during the Coronavirus lockdown, where he allowed me to extend my lease over the summer despite me already giving notice. As he doesn't live in St Andrews, he gives a wardennial type role to one of the tenants: this person has a master key to all the rooms and tests the fire alarms weekly. He also gave us some supplies to have a flat-warming party and get to know each other, which was a very kind gesture!

Richard could be quite slow at responding to issues, especially after the loss of our property's handyman. Richard would also occasionally come to the house without sufficient notice, and it had to be pointed out to him on multiple occasions that this was in breach of our tenancy agreements.
